Free seeds in Hervey Bay: check the local options |
Seasonal growing support |

Hervey Bay residents can access limited free seasonal seed deliveries and gardening support through Fraser Coast Regional Council’s partnership with Grow It Local.
The program offers a way to get started with home-grown food, but a free membership should not be taken as a guarantee that seeds are available when you register.
Council confirms that limited deliveries are offered twice a year, in autumn and spring, alongside local events, online webinars and practical education.
That makes the current spring season a useful time to check your eligibility and the latest seed-service details before planning around a delivery.
The program is intended for Fraser Coast residents and supports growing food at home, composting organic waste and sharing gardening knowledge.
Council directs residents to choose the Community FREE plan when signing up, so there is no need to assume a paid membership is required for the local partnership.
A large garden is not a prerequisite for learning through the program: Council also points to balconies and sunny windowsills as places residents can begin.

The remaining spring allocation, delivery timing and the contents of any available seed pack have not been confirmed for this guide.
For readers who already have a library membership, Fraser Coast Libraries’ Seed Library provides another route to collecting and exchanging seeds.
Its From Plant to Plate approach follows the growing cycle, from collecting seeds and tending plants to gathering seed once plants have ripened and matured.
Those gathered seeds can then be returned to the library for other members to share, keeping the exchange connected to local growers.
The Seed Library and the delivered-seed service are separate options, so check each service’s current arrangements rather than assuming the same stock or collection process applies.
Before registering, decide whether you mainly want learning support, a seasonal delivery or a library seed exchange, because that will help you ask the right questions.
If your next step depends on receiving a particular seed, confirm availability first rather than buying other supplies on that assumption.
For help with the Council partnership or current local arrangements, call Council on 1300 79 49 29 and ask about Grow It Local or the Seed Library. |
